If you graduate, you will get the Alumni role added to your profile and then you will have access to your account as long as you use it.

Unused alumni accounts will be purged after 1 year without a login.

If you leave without graduating, your account will remain accessible until the following year’s tax season is over (allowing you time to access the previous year’s 1099-T info).

Inactive alumni accounts are no longer kept in the system as of April 15th, 2007.

Normal mail expiration policies are still in place! Plan accordingly.  See Also:  How long does mail stay in my @mail.usi.edu (myUSI) mail account?

What is the myUSI mail quota?

September 16th, 2009

Many users first learn of the myUSI mail quota after using 90% of it. Then they often wonder what happens when their email quota is reached.

The myUSI email quota is 50 Megabytes (50 MB) of space across all of your email folders.

Moving messages into a folder still counts against your overall quota. This includes moving mail into your Deleted and Sent folders.

Moving a message from the INBOX into a separate folder does save it from automatically being purged once it is in your account for longer than 6 months (180 days), but the message will still count towards your overall quota until it is fully deleted from any folder in your email.

Once you reach your quota, you won’t be able to receive email anymore and anyone sending you an email message will get bounce back error messages explaining that your mailbox is full.

If you are over quota, you can free up space by deleted messages that you no longer need from any of the folders in your email. If you need copies for future reference, you might consider forwarding them to another account or printing them off before removing them.

The myUSI email quota can be increased  to 100 Megabytes upon request to the myUSI Heldesk email address, myusi@usi.edu.

Some users have received an “Error: Could not get markup. The cookie or session is invalid or there is a runtime exception” message in their Dashboard channel when logging into the my.usi.edu portal.

To resolve the issue, click on another tab along the top of the portal, the Workspace tab for example, and then click back to your original tab.

The issue should now be resolved.

The new portal requires using an up to date web browser.  See our browser support page for a complete list of supported browser versions.

If you have to use Internet Explorer 6, or some other web browser that is not listed on the browser support page, you might try one of these 3 options:

If none of these resolve your situation, call the myUSI Helpdesk at 812.465.1070 at once.

If you are having problems logging into the myUSI portal, http://my.usi.edu, you can try logging into the services that you want to access, myUSI Mail (for your email), Blackboard (for online course materials), and Self Service (for registration, checking or updating grades, financial aid, etc.) by going to the myUSI Start page:

 myUSI Start pagehttp://www.usi.edu/start

Just log in to whichever service you need and it will open in a separate window or web browser tab.

There are a number of phishing scams going around the Internet all the time. When a site like myUSI is undergoing a change, it can lead to confusion among the site’s users if they receive requests via email for sensitive personal information, username’s and passwords from seemingly trusted sources.

To be clear, any request for passwords, usernames, or sensitive personal information should be treated as a scam.

The myUSI support team will never ask for usernames, passwords, or sensitive personal information by email.

If receive these types of requests from seemingly trusted sources, do not respond to them. If you are concerned about them, and want to verify that they are indeed scams, you can contact the myUSI support team by email at myusi@usi.edu or by phone at 812.465.1070.

Most likely the appearance of “Dummy Text” when clicking on the Self Service button of myUSI or on the myUSI Start page is the result of running the Norton Personal Firewall or Norton Internet Security software packages on your computer.

The security settings of these two programs can cause problems when trying to access myUSI’s Self Service application in its current configuration. If you have one of these two software products installed on your computer, you can fix this by following these steps:

  1. Open the Norton Internet Security (NIS) control panel. You can access it by right-clicking on the NIS icon in the system tray of your computer (down on the right by your computer’s clock) and then clicking Norton Internet Security, or by double-clicking the Norton Internet Security icon on the computer’s desktop or by finding the Norton folder in your Program’s menu (Start Button -> All Programs -> Norton).
  2. Next, click on Privacy and then click Configure
  3. You want to add the following addresses to the list of sites and you will need to set all the options to Permit
    1. Add www.usi.edu, then set all options to Permit
    2. Add my.usi.edu, then set all options to Permit
    3. Add mail.usi.edu, then set all options to Permit
    4. Add sctssb.usi.edu, then set all options to Permit
  4. Click OK, then close the Norton Internet Security (NIS) control panel
  5. Close all your web browsers and then try accessing myUSI and the Self Service tab again.
  6. If that doesn’t work, try right clicking on the Norton Internet Security Icon in your system tray (down by the clock on the right side) and then disable it. Now try logging in and checking the tab. As security and antivirus are IMPORTANT measures to take, if you use this option ALWAYS remember to re-enable Norton when you are done or else you won’t be protected.

What is a channel in myUSI?

March 11th, 2008

MyUSI provides informational content through a mechanism called channels. In general, channels provide at-a-glance information with click-throughs to expanded content or Web resources. Channels are similar to the content modules that are aviable on sites such as Netscape.com and Yahoo.com.

Some typical channels that you may see include information like:

  • How many appointments are on your calendar
  • A preview of the first few messages in your email inbox
  • A place to keep bookmarks that is accessible from any computer
  • Links USI information
  • Access to course schedules or administrative services

We maintain a page of quick links to many of the tools and patches discussed in the myUSI FAQ. You can find it at http://media.myusi.org/myusifaq/tools/

On this page you will find tools that help make computing safer for you such as anti-virus software, anti-spyware and anti-malware software, and data protection software.

You will also find free software that we recommend for everyday use, such as the browsers Firefox and Opera. If you are looking for a free alternative to Microsoft Office, we recommend Open Office.

Once on the tools, bookmark it for future use as we will continually provide recommendations to new software, tips, and articles that will enhance your computing experience

If something is missing, let us know, and we will add it.

The default web browser that AOL uses to allow its subscribers to surf the Internet is not fully supported by many web sites including myUSI. This article lists the browsers that are supported by the myUSI web site.

Here are some steps to follow to allow you to use myUSI with a supported browser while still having AOL as your Internet Service Provider:

  1. Log in to AOL like you normally would.
  2. After you are completely logged on, minimize your AOL session by clicking on the bar (minimize) icon in the upper right hand corner of your AOL session window.
Note: You will still be logged in to AOL, your session should remain as a selection on your Taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Now open a supported web browser from either your desktop or your Start -> Programs menu.
  4. Type my.usi.edu (the address of myUSI) in the Address field and you should be able to access myUSI without any problems.

Note: You can follow the steps of this article to ensure that you will have access to all of myUSI’s functionality: What steps can I take to make sure that I can access myUSI?
