The new portal requires using an up to date web browser.  See our browser support page for a complete list of supported browser versions.

If you have to use Internet Explorer 6, or some other web browser that is not listed on the browser support page, you might try one of these 3 options:

If none of these resolve your situation, call the myUSI Helpdesk at 812.465.1070 at once.

If you are having problems logging into the myUSI portal, http://my.usi.edu, you can try logging into the services that you want to access, myUSI Mail (for your email), Blackboard (for online course materials), and Self Service (for registration, checking or updating grades, financial aid, etc.) by going to the myUSI Start page:

 myUSI Start pagehttp://www.usi.edu/start

Just log in to whichever service you need and it will open in a separate window or web browser tab.

Many students try to print PowerPoint slides  or Word documents from inside Blackboard.  Doing so may be causing problems depending how the web browser they are using is configured.

They may need to save the PowerPoint presentation OUTSIDE of Blackboard
before sending it to print:

  1. Open the Blackboard course and find the PowerPoint presentation or Word document to be printed.
  2. Right click on the title of the PowerPoint presentation or Word document.
  3. Select SAVE and save the presentation or document to the desktop.
  4. Minimize Blackboard.
  5. Open the presentation or documentfrom the desktop.
  6. Select FILE, and then PRINT from the top menu.
  7. A print window will open.
  8. For presentations, about two thirds of the way down the print window, find Print what:
    1. Open the drop-down list directly below that and select Handouts.
    2. To the right of that, select the number of slides per page.
  9. Then click OK. This will send your project to the printer.

MyUSI is USI’s portal which allows access to multiple products with one easy login.

Blackboard is classified as course management software or courseware.

Both share a few similar features such as chat, announcements, calendar.

The course resources found under myUSI are basic tools delivered with the product, but myUSI is not courseware. If you have already created a Blackboard site for your course, you may choose to add a link for this site under the Course Homepage in myUSI.

If you have not already designed anything for your course under Blackboard and need only basic chat, message board, e-mail, and a way to add links for your course, you may choose to use the Course Resources under myUSI.

With the recent increase in worm and virus activity, many people have tightened up their browser security to the point that it breaks some of the functionality between myUSI and Blackboard.

If you are receiving a login screen when you are trying to access Blackboard using the myUSI link, please perform the following steps in Internet Explorer:

Go to the Tools menu; select Internet Options

  1. Click on the Privacy tab,
  2. Click on the Advanced button,
  3. Check the box for Override automatic cookie handling,
  4. For both First party cookies and Third party cookies, check Accept,
  5. Click the Apply button and then Ok button,
  6. Restart the browser.
  7. If that doesn’t fix the problem, try temporarily turning off your anti-virus and/or firewall to see if that is causing the problem.

For more help, see the Blackboard Support page.

If the USI Blackboard screen fonts are displaying and printing too small, you may need to adjust the resolution of your computer.

Some web browsers also allow you to adjust the way fonts are displayed on your computer, allowing you to increase or decrease their size onscreen. On most web browsers, those options are under the View drop down menu.

New and transfer students who are enrolled for Summer or Fall term courses will not have access to Blackboard until approximately two weeks before the start of the term they are first registered for.

If you have further questions, please contact Instructional Technology Services at online@usi.edu.

This isn’t normal behavior. Clicking on the Blackboard link from within myUSI should automatically log you into the Blackboard website. If you are not logging into the Blackboard site automatically, there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

A Recent Name Change

If you recently submitted a name change request with the Registrar’s Office and followed the username change instructions in the email that you received shortly afterwards, your records might not be synced up with the Blackboard system yet. Contact Instructional Technology Services at online@usi.edu or 812-465-7182 for assistance in getting your myUSI and Blackboard account information properly synchronized.

Time of the Semester

Blackboard courses are not usually available until at least the first day of classes each term. If you are a new student and have registered for a class and try accessing its Blackboard counterpart before this time, you might encounter a situation where you don’t have access to the system. Try again after classes start and see if the situation improves. If not, check with your instructor to make sure that there is a Blackboard area for the specific course you’re attending.

Web Browser Configuration

With the recent increase in worm and virus activity, many people have tightened up their browser security to the point that it breaks some of the functionality of myUSI.

If you are receiving a login screen when you are trying to access Blackboard using the myUSI link, please perform the following steps in Internet Explorer:

  1. Go to the Tools menu; select Internet Options,
  2. Click on the Privacy tab,
  3. Click on the Advanced button,
  4. Check the box for Override automatic cookie handling,
  5. For both First party cookies and Third party cookies, check Accept,
  6. Click the Apply button and then OK button,
  7. Restart the browser. If that doesn’t fix it, try temporarily turning off your anti-virus and/or firewall to see if that is causing the problem.

No, you currently can not track your ongoing academic progress through the semester in the Grades section of Student and Financial Aid area of myUSI’s Self Service tab. This section is for the final semester grade only.

For details of individual scores on tests, homework assignments, projects, etc. you should sign on to Blackboard. The Blackboard login is currently located on the myUSI tab. In the future, you may also be able to see Midterm grades in the Self Service tab of myUSI.

What is myUSI?

October 9th, 2007

MyUSI is a campus web portal that lets you access many of the university’s school services online. Faculty and students can read and create emails from their USI email account. It has email and chat features specific to each USI class. You can access a calendar of USI events, and receive announcements specific to your role within the university. There are also links for students to get to the online Blackboard system.
