myUSI Transition

Beginning the Summer of 2009, myUSI will be switching to a new portal and email system. The details of that transition and how it will affect our users will be outlined here and in individual posts to the myUSI Frequently Asked Questions site.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

We are having technical difficulties with our new directory and we will wait until this is resolved before automatically forwarding mail to the new system.  We expect to resolve this issue this week.

Currently any mail sent to an @usieagles.org address WILL NOT automatically be forwarded to the new myUSI email account.

We are working with our vendor to resolve this and expect to be done by the end of the week. The myUSI Support Team 05/13/2009 @1:21pm

ACCESSING THE NEW MYUSI

The new myUSI is available at

my.usi.edu

HOW TO STAY INFORMED

First and foremost, the easiest way to stay informed is to watch this space. You can access if by going to www.usi.edu/newportal, which will automatically direct you here.

You can also follow the myUSI Support Team on Twitter. Our Twitter feed is available at twitter.com/myusi. Whenever we update this page, add additional information about the transition, or provide previews of the new system, we’ll post it update that page.

IMPORTANT NOTE

There are a number of phishing scams going around the Internet all the time. When a site like myUSI is undergoing a change, it can lead to confusion among the site’s users if they receive requests via email for sensitive personal information, username’s and passwords from seemingly trusted sources.

To be clear, any request for passwords, usernames, or sensitive personal information should be treated as a scam.

The myUSI support team will never ask for usernames, passwords, or sensitive personal information by email.

If receive these types of requests from seemingly trusted sources, do not respond to them. If you are concerned about them, and want to verify that they are indeed scams, you can contact the myUSI support team by email at myusi@usi.edu or by phone at 812.465.1070.

WHAT HAPPENS MAY 11, 2009

On May 11th, the new myUSI site will go live. The old portal will remain accessible until May 18th in order for faculty to post and manage grades and students to view grades using the interface to which they are accustomed. Grades and grade posting will also be available by clicking the Self Service icon in the new myUSI site as both the Self Service tab in the old site and the icon in the new site point to the same back-end system. The transition week is simply there for the convenience of our users.

Starting May 11th, new mail messages sent to the old @usieagles.org addresses will automatically be forwarded to the appropriate @mail.usi.edu accounts. Any mail left that had already been delivered to the @usieagles.org account that users want to save will need to be forwarded to their @mail.usi.edu accounts or printed off starting May 11th.

After May 18th, all access to the old myUSI portal will be disabled. If you still need to forward or print off mail from your @usieagles.org address, access will be made to the old email account through a web interface. Users will have until September 14th, 2009 to either forward or print their old mail. After September 14th, all access to the old email system will be gone.

As the myUSI Address Book, Calendar, My Courses and Group applications are tied to the old myUSI portal. Faculty, Students, and Staff that make use of those features will need to back up that data before the May 22nd shutdown date for the old portal. Instructions, audio podcasts, and video screencasts will be posted to www.usi.edu/newportal to help with these operations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Last year, USI received a grant for over 1 million dollars from The Campus EAI Consortium to replace our old portal.  We have been working since then to rebuild USI’s online experience using this and other new technologies.
As a result, there will be some changes starting Summer I, 2009.

  • There will be a new email address for students!  You asked for it - an \”edu\” address.  Student email will be student@mail.usi.edu.  This will allow students to take advantage of special promotions for students (many of these deals require a .edu address).
  • NO MIGRATION.  These will be NEW accounts.
  • You will need your original 6 digit PIN.
  • You will need to export your address book , export your calendar, and print or forward any email you want saved.
    • You will need to export your address book and calendar by May 22 if you use these features.
    • If you don’t use the address book or calendar on the current myUSI, you don’t need to export them for the new myUSI.
  • The new email client will have Instant Messaging built in.
  • A more powerful calendar with busy searches of other myUSI calendars to plan meetings.
  • More email space available.  The default quota will be doubled.
  • Larger mail attachments.
  • Groups are going away (for now).  Save any files or messages from your group before May 11th!
  • The My Courses (non-Blackboard) will no longer be available.  Save any files or messages from your My Courses class before May 11th!  (Remember, this does NOT apply to Blackboard).
  • And, not to forget, the site name has changed.  Starting May 11, it will be my.usi.edu.  Don’t worry, if you forget, the old site will auto-redirect you to the right place.

IMPORTANT!  We will NOT be migrating mail.  You will need to forward email to the new system.  The old system will stop receiving mail on May 11th.  It will be automatically forwarded to the new system.  The old mail will be accessible all summer and up to September 14th.  If you haven’t gotten your email off of the old system by then - it will be lost forever.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
