MyUSI Announcement
June 2nd, 2008
The University of Southern Indiana was recently selected as a CampusEAI Oracle Portal Grant recipient by CampusEAI, an independent, non-profit consortium that provides enterprise portal solutions to members of its organization. The grant is a five-year award for $1,077,589 that will be applied towards software and services. The Computer Services department will oversee the development and deployment of the new portal and its associated services.
The new portal will provide integrated online learning, administrative computing, and student services to the faculty, staff, and students of USI. Once deployed, the new portal will be more appealing to the campus community by being easier to use, providing quicker access to commonly used services, and, eventually, allowing even more services to be integrated into a one-stop website.
As a member of the CampusEAI consortium, USI will benefit from work already being done by other member schools to develop and deploy many commonly used portal applications, also called ‘portlets.’ We hope, in time, to also contribute our own portlets back to the consortium. This open exchange of ideas and commitment to collaboration is in keeping with university values and ideals.
The new CEAI portal will simplify access to many online services that USI already offers to the campus community. We expect that it will be possible to provide even more online services in time. Testing of the new portal is anticipated to begin within the next six months.
Any questions about the new portal should be directed to Wayne Bohm, the Director of the Computer Services department.
